Holiday cottages with a hoist for disabled holidaymakers

cottages with a hoist

Trying to get away on holiday is often really stressful, trying to ensure that all of our requirements are going to be available, all boxes ticked.

It can be a little tricky in finding a cottage for your holiday that has a hoist to help move our family members. No one wants to return from holiday with back problems.

Click on the photographs to view a list of holiday cottages with their own hoist. Having access to one on-site saves the anxiety of hiring one from a local company or the Red Cross, you know that it will definitely be there and available when you arrive.

Alternatively, it is possible to rent a hoist for the duration of your holiday. Cottage owners are happy to take delivery the day before your arrival and to return them when you leave.

A cost is involved which may be recoupable depending on local authority policy and grants.

However, it is good to know that despite the difficulties you can arrange a cottage with the facilities that you need to assist your disabled relative or client.

Renting a hoist for your holiday

Local mobility shops and charities such as the Red Cross run various hire schemes of equipment for people with disabilities.

Cottage owners, especially those with groups of cottages try to cater for all needs and if there is a cottage designed for the disabled, it will not only be wheelchair accessible but will have a range of features that may include

rated M2 under the Visit England National Accessibility Scheme (NAS)

- level access with all accommodation on one level

- en-suite wet room shower room with grab rails adjacent to shower and toilet

Optional on request

- vibrating alarm pack

- raised toilet seat

- shower seat

Cottage owners are also happy to take delivery of any further equipment that guests may need to hire for the duration of their stay such as hoists, oxygen tanks etc.

Many go beyond the call of duty and will assist where asked. Have a conversation before you book a cottage with facilities for the disabled to get a feel for their attitude and willingness to help.

Cottages with a hoist

Taking a holiday somewhere different is beneficial for body soul and mind. Sometimes it takes more than just packing a suitcase of clothes, especially when disabled, so it's good to be aware of what is available to make booking and enjoying a cottage break possible.

Not many holiday cottages have their own hoist although hire can be arranged in almost every circumstance.
